Soon after Anne Boleyn's execution, Henry enters a new marriage, this time to the noblewoman Jane Seymour. Queen Jane gives birth to a male heir, Prince Edward, but finally passes away after not being able to defeat her postnatal infection, which leads to a politically calculated search for a fourth Queen and ends up in a loveless marriage between Henry and Anne of Cleves. Season 3 also chronicles Henry's brutal repression of the Catholic uprising across the country, the downfall of Thomas Cromwell, and the springing of Henry's relationship with the free-spirited Catherine Howard.
